How to prepare your body for Birth with the Body Ready Birth workshop

Updated: Jan 16

Preparing for birth goes far beyond knowing what to expect. It's about knowing how to prepare your body for birth. Many mothers enter birth unsure of how to move, how to support labor progress, or how to stay mentally grounded when things feel intense or unpredictable.

The Body Ready Birth Workshop was created by Lindey Mccoy founder of the Body Ready Method to bridge that gap. This workshop empowers pregnant mothers and their birth partners with practical movement strategies, mindset tools, and embodied preparation so labor doesn’t feel confusing or overwhelming. By practicing intentional movement and support techniques ahead of time, you’ll enter birth feeling confident, prepared, and deeply connected to your body’s innate ability to give birth.

What Is a Body Ready Birth Workshop?

The Body Ready Birth Workshop is a prenatal body and mind preparation class designed to help pregnant moms learn how to move during birth in ways that support labor progress, help baby navigate the pelvis, and reduce common birth complications, like a stalled labor or a “stuck” baby.

Instead of guessing how to move in labor, this workshop teaches you intentional movement patterns that become second nature. You practice these movements during pregnancy, during labor, so your body knows what to do without you having to think through every position.

You’ll also learn how your birth partner can actively support your movement, mindset, and decision-making during labor, instead of feeling unsure or stuck on the sidelines.

At its core, the Body Ready Birth Workshop helps you and your support team prepare your body and your brain for birth, so movement feels intuitive, not overwhelming.

Who Should Take a Body Ready Birth Workshop?

This workshop is beneficial for all pregnant moms and their partners — even if this isn’t your first baby.

That said, it’s especially helpful if:

  • You’re a first-time mom

  • You experienced a stall in labor with a previous birth

  • You want to prevent birth complications naturally

  • You want to understand how to move during labor

  • Your partner wants hands-on training for how to support you

  • You’re struggling mentally with coping with labor pain

  • You and your partner are committed to tools that support a vaginal birth and reduce unnecessary interventions

Even experienced parents often say, “I wish I had known this the first time.”

How Is This Different from Spinning Babies®?

While there is some overlap in movement, the focus is different.

  • Spinning Babies® primarily emphasizes specific exercises and positions during pregnancy to encourage optimal positioning of the baby and prevent positioning challenges.

  • Body Ready Birth, on the other hand, focuses on movement and mindset during labor itself, and how to move in the moment, as well as how mental blocks can affect labor progress.

These two approaches complement each other beautifully.

That’s why many families may choose to take both through my Prenatal Body Movement Series, which combines Spinning Babies® and Body Ready Birth concepts into one cohesive preparation plan.

Is This a Childbirth Class?

No — this is not a traditional childbirth education class.

The Body Ready Birth Workshop does not go deep into:

  • medical interventions

  • hospital vs. home birth logistics

  • detailed labor stages

We strongly recommend taking a comprehensive childbirth class either before or alongside this workshop. A childbirth class helps you understand how birth works, while Body Ready Birth helps you understand how to move and cope during it. For those interested, my Better Birth Prep Series includes this workshop and childbirth education.

That said, this workshop works very well as a stand-alone option for second- or third-time parents who have already taken childbirth education in the past.

My Doula Is a Body Ready Method® Pro — Should I Still Take This Class?

Yes — and that’s actually a huge advantage.

A Body Ready Method® Pro doula uses a personalized approach through assessment and supports you with;

  • Body balancing to help the baby find their best position

  • Addressing and preventing Prenatal aches, pain, and Pelvic floor dysfunction

  • Core support (including diastasis recti prevention)

  • Optimizing body alignment for a more efficient birth

  • Supporting smoother postpartum recovery

  • Doing a personal assessment by identifying possible hang-ups in labor and assigning personalized exercises to address them

However, the Body Ready Birth Workshop gives you the tools to move intuitively during labor (without overthinking) and helps you address mental and mindset blocks that can interfere with labor progress.

When you take this class and work with a Body Ready Method® Pro doula:

  • Your doula can support you more effectively

  • You’ll recognize and recall movement tools more easily

  • Your partner becomes more confident and involved

  • Everyone works together seamlessly to support you

I’m Taking Body Ready Prenatal — Should I Still Take Body Ready Birth?

Yes — they serve different purposes.

In this workshop, we cover questions like:

  • What’s the best position to push in?

  • How should I move during early labor?

  • How can I tell where baby is without a cervical check?

  • How do I know which positions to use during labor?

  • How can my partner support me physically and mentally?

  • How do I work through fear or uncertainty during labor?

These topics are not covered in Body Ready Prenatal — which is why the two work best together.

I’m 35–39 Weeks Pregnant and Can’t Attend a Workshop — What Should I Do?

Good news — it’s not too late.

You still have options:

If you’re closer to 39 weeks, individualized support becomes more valuable. While the tools work best when practiced regularly (ideally daily if you start during the third trimester, 2-3 times a week if you start during the first and second trimester), even late preparation can make a meaningful difference.

How Long Is the Body Ready Birth Workshop?

The workshop is 3.5–4 hours long.

You’ll also receive an online student pack with digital handouts, videos, and practice materials so you can continue using the tools at home, leading up to birth.

Whether this is your first baby or your fifth, whether your last birth felt smooth or chaotic, learning how to move, cope, and stay mentally grounded during labor can make a meaningful difference in how your birth unfolds and how you feel about it afterward.

If you want to feel more confident in your body, supported by your partner, and prepared to navigate birth with clarity instead of fear, the Body Ready Birth Workshop is a powerful place to start.
